The durability of component’s surface treatment depends on how exposed it is to sun, wind and water. So it is necessary to inspect and maintain your components from time to time.
The interval can vary from a few months to many years. Wood must always be maintained when it is no longer water resistant so the surface protection stays intact. A hole in the surface treatment can allow moisture to get in and the wood will begin to decompose. Exterior components should also be cleaned with water, and it is possible to add car shampoo during regular cleaning.
Renovation of surface treatment:
1. Remove loose paint.
2. Remove resin with alcohol and rinse with water.
3. Wash with water containing ammonia or a cleaning agent.
4. Prime exposed wood with clear oil-based wood preservative.
5. Maintain water/alkyd-based paint.
HOW TO REMOVE ANY RESIN!
Large amounts of resin are best removed by waiting for the resin to solidify (crystallise). With a knife, spatula or similar tool, carefully scrape away the resin (not quite to the bottom, or the paint can be damaged).
Residual resin can now be removed with alcohol. Brush the alcohol on the surface. Let it work for a few minutes, and then blot gently with a cloth or cotton wool. Use the same procedure for any brown stains. It is important not to rub the paint with a hard material, or you may risk damage - and remember to rinse with clean water after using alcohol. We chose this type of paint for surface protection, and the resin will usually penetrate the paint without causing peeling. Once the resin has been removed, the surface is again intact and does not need any new treatment. In these cases, you can get a beautiful, durable surface treatment by wiping windows and doors with a cloth soaked in alcohol a couple times a year. The alcohol works in the paint surface and any residue should be removed with a damp cloth (water).
We know that resin can be troublesome, but we hope that by following the above advice you will enjoy our products for many years. It is important to remember that wood resin is a sign of health, giving a longer life.
OIL TREATMENT FOR MAHOGANY
Mahogany components are delivered factory-treated with a pigmented oil-based product. At regular intervals at least 1-2 times a year, you should check that the surface is still protected, especially if the south and west sides are exposed. For maintenance of mahogany components we recommend TRÆ-NOLIN 35 Wood Oil Clear or Tinted from TRÆ-NORD. Treat the wood once with TRÆ-NOLIN 35 wood oil, and all maintenance is done. If the wood remains slick, wipe away any excess oil with a dry cloth. It is recommended that components be aftertreated within the first 3 months after installation. Then the wood should be re-treated as necessary. These maintenance intervals are recommended because the treatment’s durability depends on how exposed the components are to sun and wind. Maintenance should be performed once the wood is no longer waterproof. The wood must be dry and free of dirt and grease before it is treated.
Application and application method, etc. are listed on the product.

MAINTENANCE OF POWDER COATED ALUMINIUM
For the warranty to be valid, aluminium windows and frames should not be painted. This is because aluminium needs minimal maintenance; you simply wash the exterior window casing and frame a few times a year. If the aluminium gets a minor scratch, it can be polished with a polishing agent. Deep scratches, where the aluminium is visible beneath the paint, are very difficult to repair/paint, but do not affect the useful life, as automatic oxidation protects the aluminium and prevents corrosion.
Aluminium surfaces may fade over the years, especially strong colours. The colour can be freshened up, like polishing a car, and with the same methods.
If you want to change the colour you must either uninstall the aluminium profiles and send them in to be refinished or order a new frame in the desired colour.
Contact a local lumber specialist, state the manufacturer’s code and ask for a quote for delivery of new aluminium profiles in the desired colour.
